What is Chronic Pain Syndrome?

Most pain subsides after an injury heals or an illness runs its course. But with chronic pain syndrome, pain can last for months and even years after the body heals. It can even occur when there’s no known trigger for the pain.

How do I know I have chronic pain syndrome?

You will experience the following symptoms:

  1. Joint pain
  2. Muscle aches
  3. Burning pain
  4. Fatigue
  5. Sleep problems
  6. Loss of stamina and flexibility due to decreased activity
  7. Mood problems like anxiety, depression and irritability

What causes chronic pain syndrome?

Some conditions cause widespread, long-lasting pain and they include:

  • Osteoarthritis

  • Rheumatoid arthritis

  • Back pain

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Inflammatory bowel syndrome

  • Surgical trauma

  • Advanced cancer

What are the treatments for chronic pain syndrome?

  • Medications
