What are Headaches?
They are a common cause of pain and discomfort, and most people will have headaches at some time in their lives. Headache covers any pain around the head, face or neck area. There are 2 types of headaches:
- Primary headaches, which is just happens without any related illness or injury. They include tension headaches, cluster headaches, migraine.
- Secondary headaches which are caused by an underlying condition
Can physiotherapy help people with headaches?
Yes. Physiotherapy is effective in the management of neck headache (cervicogenic headache) and jaw headache.
What are the causes of headaches?
Stress
Eye strain or squinting
Poor posture
Dehydration
Drinking too much alcohol or eating certain foods
Lack of sleep
Poor posture
Skipping a meal
Sometimes, there’s no obvious cause
The causes of secondary headaches include:
Drinking too much alcohol
A head injury like concussion
Hormonal changes in women
A neck problem
Irritation of nerve fibres
Ear, eyes, sinus, tooth and jaw problems
Inflammation of an artery in the head
Withdrawal from caffeine or narcotics
