What is Postnatal Physiotherapy?

This refers to physiotherapy advice and treatment after childbirth.

How soon can I commence postnatal physiotherapy?

Generally, commencing 6 weeks after childbirth is ideal, however, some mothers may be required to start as early as 2 days after delivery depending on the indication for it.

What problems do new mothers have after childbirth?

  • Weak pelvic floor muscles

  • Incontinence

  • Prolapse

  • Poor bladder and bowel control

  • Abdominal muscle separation

  • Pelvic pain

  • Back pain

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

  • Neck and shoulder pain

  • Breastfeeding problems like blocked breast ducts, mastitis
